These are definitely folk art. All the color, craziness. I do love hearts…. and chickens. OK, I admit it. I love whatever I’m working on. These are fun to do. I’ll be putting a couple a day on my Etsy Store for the next several days. I’ve been neglecting that spot. And they’ll be on the Folk Art Gallery Online page here. Got to get it in gear!

These I did in an altered book that I started. I was going to do sayings, with doodling/zentangles. Put it to the side, to work on something else. Just dug it out, and remembered how much fun it was. It doesn’t show in the photos, but some of the zentangles are with metallic pens. Then some glitter pens. Maybe I should do a tutorial on how to do this. I forgot the cover. That’s the best part…

This is my favorite way to do a cover. Takes forever, but when I’m done, I’m always happy with it. Do you have any favorite sayings? I make up some, borrow others.
Pens I used: Crown Hi-Jell Roller metallic ~ Uniball Signo glitter ~ Sakura Glaze ~ Zig Opague Writer ~ Zig Writer ~ and my favorite Uniball-Signo 207
Places I buy pens: www.jerrysartarama.com www.jetpens.com www.dickblick.com
I store my good pens laying down. They last longer. The Crown Hi-Jell is less than a dollar, and will write over paint like crazy. I love the Signo 207 for zentangles. I found medium refills in black at Staples. www.staples.com might have them. Pens are very addictive. I think they multiply. I probably neeeed some new ones. xoxoxo

Did these today! The 3 larger ones are on board, smaller 3 are stretched canvas. No, really it is. I think I may put those on a board, since they’re too small for a hanger. Got to get more of those tiny canvases. They are fun to paint. I’ve been on a heart thing lately. They just make me feel good.
All of these were painted with heavy matte acrylic by Golden. Then I used a Faber-Castille pen, and Prisma colored pencils. Then a spray sealer. I get the matte heavy acrylic from www.dickblick.com. I don’t like shiny paint when I working. All I see is glare. Everyone works different. You just keep experimenting until you find what works for you. If it works… it’s not wrong. That’s how to develop a style, a look. Knowing what works for you.
OK, time to scrub this paint off. Can’t wait to start a new painting tomorrow. Oh, I forgot. When I get these finished, ready to hang, they’ll be on my Etsy store. xoxoxo

I’ve been doing these while watching TV and waiting for Christmas to be over.
Halloween is my one and only holiday that I enjoy. The rest are stressful. But on to more fun things.
As you can see, you can use ANY kind of dot/swirl/line/or mistake to make a zentangle/doodle. It’s very relaxing to do. IF you let yourself have fun with it. There are no rules. If I get stuck on one, I start another one. In fact, the first one I went back and added more stuff. Just wasn’t busy enough for me. The second one I decided I liked the simplicity of it. The third one, well, I just kept going back and adding a little of this and a little of that.
Did I hear someone say patterns? Excuse me! Get that outta your head right now! You don’t neeeeed a pattern. You neeeed to learn to have fun, and not be so critical of you, your stuff, your art. Some of my best have started out being a big goof up. But I gave it a chance, and my self some slack. Just kept working as if I was working on the best one yet. Well, sometimes it is the best one yet, then other times it’s just OK. Nobodys wonderful every time. And you have to do so many ok’s to get to the really good stuff. Aren’t you glad all this advice is free? Ha!
Another thing I heard… what kind of paper do you use? Paper? I use to use the phone book cover. Filled that up, moved to the A’s. We didn’t know many A people.
So I just doodled over them. I’ve also used restaurant napkins, envelopes, bills, report cards, old books, and a occassional menu. If I have to wait entirely too long in a doctor’s office… the magazines are not safe. There are no rules. This is not rocket science. Let’s have some fun here.
OK, I’m off to the studio to do some harm to something. I’m looking forward to getting paint EVERYWHERE! Have a creative day… and take another look at that phone book cover….. xoxo

No folk art today… or yesterday…. But I did make a to die for Chicken Pot Pie! Oh, my gosh. Tried a new recipe for the pie crust. I can in all honesty say… I am in love. It has butter and sour cream in it. How could that NOT be to die for? And cream in the sauce? Of coarse I added some stuff. Like tarragon. Love that stuff with chicken. Richard ate two small helpings, and moaned. He’s a happy camper. Has to be, he has to clean up the kitchen. I am a messy cook. Can’t be helped. Creative energy seems to spread. Ha! He’s happy cause there’s lots of left overs for midnight snacks.
I took photos and everything. He laughs, but it’s fun for me. Then I put it on PJ’s Talking… as if I have a cooking blog. I’m having fun with it. I love to share food. Love to cook for people that aren’t picky… or food critics.

Then there’s Herbert, my long haired Chihuahua, that I love. He is the sweetest thing. He’s on a leash because he leaves presents. If he’s on the leash, we all do much better. He’s the best watchdog. Guards me really LOUD. He hears everything, but I guess he would with those ears. He loves to patrol the neighborhood…. on the leash. xoxoxo

Remember Pearl? Well, of coarse you do. She’s that fabulous flying pig I did earlier this month. Well, you won’t believe this, but she had a wreck. Not her fault, mine. Guess I didn’t put the right kind of hanger she needed or something. Anywho, she fell 8ft. to the floor. She musta rolled, that smart girl. Took me 3 inspections before I found her bobo. She got a small bruise on her foot. That’s it! That is one tough pig! Didn’t even mess up her hairdo. So… she’ll be recouping for a day or two… then back to flying in the gallery… lookin’ good. Stop by and say hello soon. Yes, you can send a get well card…. she loves attention. xx PJ

Hearts show up a lot in folk art. They just go together. I like the destressed frame on this. I used heavy matte Golden acrylics, Prisma colored pencils, and Crown Hi-Jell pens.
(jerrysartarama.com) Then Liquitex matte varnish. It will be on the Folk Art Gallery – Online page later. Another place to get great pens (jetpen.com)

Zelda Sue loves to go to parties. She rarely takes off her party hat. People may stare on the bus, but she doesn’t care. A person’s got to be ready. You never know when you’ll get invited to a party. She has been known to crash a few… but always minds her manners, and helps clean up….
Libby Ann has the biggest blue eyes. Everybody says so. Nobody much understands about the crown… but that’s OK. They have a hard time looking past those big blue eyes anyway. She’s had the crown so long, wears it everywhere. It does look good on her. Everybody says so….
These two fabulous girls are starring on the Online Gallery page. Stop by and say hello…

OK, I admit it. I’ve been cooking again. Don’t know what’s going on… but I’m having the best time cooking and putting food photos on PJ’s Talking. I’ll get over this, I know. Or I hope I do…
I did finish one painting, and almost done with another one. Got to paint the frame, then varnish. Can’t wait to show them. Got to work on names for the girls. So I should be getting those on here tomorrow. Cross your fingers… xx
