Yes,  I am bored.  But Herbert agreed to help me out.  I’m looking for a second job.  He suggested massage therapist.  Only working on dogs.  He’s picky like that.  See what you think.  We didn’t edit much.  What you see is what ya get.  Maybe it’ll give ya a giggle…. xoxo

art…

Being an artist never ends and you can never really remember when it began.  At least I can’t.  I doodled on everything around me.  Loved to draw on the phone book when I was a kid.  Then started school.  I drew instead of doing the work.  I didn’t mind they gave me horrible grades.  But my Mother did.  Oh, well.

I’d carve branches with a plastic knife,  then when it broke  Mother dear would LOAN me a butter knife.  The dog & I did a lot of damage with that butter knife.  He’d watch very intently,   just knowing that I was going to make something worthwhile.  Usually a very short spear.  I was obsessed to say the least.

Loved to draw in the dirt.  Add China Berries & leaves for detail.  Add some water,  and you could make a pie.  Then feed it to the boy down the street.  He may have been taller,  but I was tougher.

If I don’t get back into the studio very very soon…. I’m going to draw on my bedroom walls.  I love to work, cook, and work some more.  OK,  I’ll stop whining and watch more TV.  Yuck!  Roll me over I am done!  Wish I could put this asthma in the closet and close the door.  I’m working on it….  xxxxxx

revisiting past art…

Some things from my collection of folk art.  The only piece that’s mine is the moon on the fridge.  The bottle cap mirror frame is a favorite.  It hangs out in the bathroom with some pigs.  Shane Campbell’s crows look really nice with my moon.  He does fun things.  later…

old movies…

01/24/2010 · 3 Comments

Did you ever watch Sinbad movies when you were a kid?  Or the really old Tarzan movies?  Those had to be my favorites.  Especially Sinbad.  I loved the monsters/creatures he had to fight.  The storms they sailed thru.  The exotic islands  where they always found danger.  I watched an old Sinbad a few months ago.  Got lucky one Sunday afternoon.  The lead woman was  Bing Crosby’s wife.  Can’t remember her name right this minute.  She was originally from Houston,  I think.  Anyway,  some evil somebody shrank her,  so Sinbad had to carry her around in a very elaborate tiny box.  It was all very romantic.  Of course she was beautiful,  with a long pony tail.

At the beginning of the movie,  when they were showing the credits, etc.  they had this old folky map as a back ground.  It showed the sea,  Sinbad’s ship,  monsters Sinbad had to battle. It was so cool.  Of course I wanted to paint it.  Do my version.  Which so far hasn’t happened.  Wish they showed more of those old movies.

Tarzan was my second love.  No,  I didn’t want to be Jane.  All she did was put her hand to her mouth,  turn ever so slightly,  and scream her head off.   I was gonna be a female Tarzan.  I wanted to wrestle those alligators,  swing from the trees.  And of course I was going to need a really cool monkey.  I was going to call those elephants all day long.  The natives were going to be my new best friends…. except for the head hunters.  I’d have to straighten out those guys.  I wonder if I can still call the elephants loud enough for the neighbors to hear…..

Update:  Just got lucky and watched Jason and the Argonauts!  He had to battle a 7 headed serpent to get to the golden fleece.  Fell in love with Merdena,  who was shot with an arrow,  but brought back to life with the golden fleece. (it has healing powers)  That was some powerful old goat.   The ship was almost sank in a narrow strait,  but the Water God, (can’t remember his name)  saved them. I think he was a Merman… he had a fish tale and scales.   They had to leave Hercules on an island, he was looking for his friend.  He wasn’t as tall as I thought he would be.   Did I tell you the mast head on the ship was a blonde Goddess that would open her eyes and give Jason advise.  Of coarse each time he had to figure out what she was talking about.  That may be where all those blonde jokes started.  Close to the end Jason had to fight 7 skeletons with swords.  He finally jumped off a cliff and they drowned.  It was a close call.  What an adventure…  can’t wait until next time….

Waiting…

01/23/2010 · 4 Comments

Just hanging around,  trying to be good,  taking all that medication,  wishing all the dust in the world would go away.  Asthma is not fun.  I’ve decided I don’t want it anymore.  Nada.  I’m canceling my subscription.  Roll me over,  I am done.

So today I finally got to watch a video I had downloaded.  A class on painting with thread/free motion quilting.  Can’t remember the womans name right this minute.  But she’s really good at what she does.  And I was able to watch the entire thing without getting crazy.  (I get bored fast)  Now I can’t wait to try some of it.

But that’ll have to wait until I get a couple of commissions finished.  I’m way behind on those…. and it’s driving me crazy.  I’m hoping by next week I’ll be back in the studio,  working like crazy to make up sitting and watching reruns on Law & Order.

Today I did update my Etsy store.  pjsfolkart.etsy.com  I’ve wanted to get some hearts on there.  Hearts seem to be my favorite lately.  I’d like to do a whole wall of them.  Wouldn’t that be cool?  From heart shrines to paintings, to fabric, to clay, to…. whatever else pops up.

Ya’ll have a great weekend.  I’m going to have a lazy one.  Try my best not to talk too much.  :)   Well,  that I may have to cross my fingers on.  xx

folk art portrait…

01/20/2010 · 6 Comments

Just wanted to show you a folk art fabric painting I’ve been working on.  It’s not even close to being finished.

Aren’t those white eyes creepy?  Got to get those done.  I’m painting her on muslin,  then I’ll do embroidery and beading.  Takes time,  but I’m enjoying doing these.

Now I want to show you what I have to do with the painting so Shirley (that cat)  doesn’t sleep on it.

I tried just using the cooking racks… but Shirley would sleep on those.  I know she does it to drive me crazy.  That cat has a plan, she is not fooling me.   So I put the jars of pencils on top.  So far she can’t move them.

Now to show you what I had to do with my paint brushes…. errrr…..

I had them standing up in pretty jars,  right where I’d need them,  easy to reach.  But Shirley loves my brushes.  She loves to scratch her head on them.  So then I end up painting with cat hair.  Not fun. I’m going blind picking out cat hair.  So this is the new plan.  I’m thinking it’s too tight for her (fat cat) to squeeze in there to lay on them.  What do you think?  Ignore the dirty floor…

Between migraines and now asthma,  Shirley has been in the studio more than I have.  I tend to get cranky if I can’t work,  so Richard’s now putting Shirley outside every morning.  She ain’t happy,  but I am.  :)

Loose threads…

01/14/2010 · 1 Comment

In Brenham, Tx.  there’s this great stitch shop.  The nice woman that owns it is a sweetheart.  She lets different stitching groups meet there.  A friend,  Kathleen,  invited me to join.  OK,  I admit it.  I love it.  It’s got to be the nicest bunch of women I’ve ever met.  They tell stories, exchange information,  encouragement,  but most of all… laughter.  I think the group I joined may be the loudest… but I can’t say for sure.  But they are fun.  And do some of the best hand work I’ve seen.  So today,  I got snap shots of some of the things they’re working on.  I thought you might like to see.

And did I remember to say that they’re a really nice bunch of women?

those eyes…

01/14/2010 · 5 Comments

Look what I got from a friend…  she knows I have a thing for eyes… and I begged…

Isn’t it cool?  Kitt made it from felt.  It’s a pin!  Isn’t she smart?  I thought so too.

Then this is one I just made.  My first beaded pin.  I had so much fun doing this.  Love those beads!

Felt, fabric, embroidery floss, beads, and a few creative words… that I shouldn’t repeat here. :)

This is a glass eye ball bead I got at an art show in Alabama.  I wear this one often.  The hand I got at the Houston Quilt Show.   I love all those odd necklaces.  Each one is unique/different/fun to wear.  Kinda like wearing art.

Then these two hang out in my office basket.  They make me smile every time I see them.  I swear  sometimes they wink…

Hope you enjoyed my favorite things.  Have a great day! xoxoxoxo

be still my heart…

01/09/2010 · 2 Comments

This photo isn’t exactly straight,  but I promise the black canvas is.  Looks like I got a little hyper on this one.  I love all that color in the threads, beads,  and the paint.  Finally had to make myself quit,  and pronounce it ‘done’.

It’s cold in Texas right now, so that means it’s too cold in my studio to do much.  So with this I can pile up in the bed with Herbert (my Chihuahua),  do embroidery,  bead,  and watch Law & Order all day.  Only bad thing is when I drop beads in the bed.  Those things are painful when you’re trying to take a nap.  Doesn’t bother Herbert.  Nothing bothers Herbert.  He’s Mr. Cool.

This one and the other two will be on the Gallery – Online page shortly.

and a little of that….

01/04/2010 · 14 Comments

I’ve decided these are fabric paintings.  I paint ‘em with acrylics, embroidery floss, and beads.  Her name is Red.  She has no idea why.  It’s the color of the week. ;)    The canvas she’s on is 8 x 10.

Now I’m working on one for Valentines Day.  It’s gonna be wild and crazy… just like love.  Got to get back to it. xx
