WIP’s I’ve got to show somebody the progress I’m making on these 3 paintings.

It’s been raining all day, the humidity has to be 110%. I finally had to turn on the dehumidifer. That thing is the best. It’ll get the studio dry enough it’s hard to blink.

That’ll give you a small idea of what I’ve been doing. Since I have been working in clay, my studio was upside down. I usually don’t let it get in that bad of shape. I like organization. Not to the extreme, but enough where I know where things are suppose to be. That allows me to keep the creativity going. My mind on art. And able to work fast, which makes me happy.
So the first half hour was putting everything and everybody in their place. Then go thru my canvas stash. Pick out random sizes. Haven’t decided exactly what I want to paint. I did do some fast sketches at 3am this morning. So I do have a plan, but not going to share it in case I change my mind.
As a friend said, ya gotta follow your muse. Lately mine has been hyperactive…. going in so many directions. Not complaining… it’s been fun.
Got a quick slap of gesso on several canvases…. fans going…. might sneak a nap. Herbert (that Chihuahua) is always up for a nap.
You can actually shop on my new online website/gallery PJ Hornberger Folk Art. Take a look around.

It must be Christmas…. or the Lottery…. oh, Happy Days. Jerry’s Artarama in Houston was having a killer sale this week. I kept intending to go, then one thing after the other came up. So, finally went this morning NO MATTER WHAT. I got 70% off on these canvases. Some are the 1.5 inch deep. Love those. Even got soft drawing pencils on sale. I’ll be painting forever and ever. I needed the smaller ones. I had large sizes, but no middle or small. Now my studio is stocked. I’m a very happy camper.
My paint clothes are clean. Studio is clean. I’m gonna be dangerous….

I’ve decided these are fabric paintings. I paint ‘em with acrylics, embroidery floss, and beads. Her name is Red. She has no idea why. It’s the color of the week.
The canvas she’s on is 8 x 10.
Now I’m working on one for Valentines Day. It’s gonna be wild and crazy… just like love. Got to get back to it. xx

#1 I’m not sure what I’m going to call this. Ingredients: fabric, acrylic paint, embroidery, beads, stretched canvas. I’ve seen several artists that do something similar. Loved each and every one. In my head I’ve been working on how I would do mine. I think I’ve finally got the starting spot worked out. Now to run with it. It’s folk art. It’s a kind of collage. It’s mixed media. It’s whatever I want it to be! ART! I made myself start with a small piece. Very hard for me to do. The canvas it’s mounted on is 4 x 6 x 1.5.
Now to get back to the other two pieces I’m working on. Yes, I’m having so much fun. Nope, it’s not priced yet. My brain is still on… which bead where. xx

Did these today! The 3 larger ones are on board, smaller 3 are stretched canvas. No, really it is. I think I may put those on a board, since they’re too small for a hanger. Got to get more of those tiny canvases. They are fun to paint. I’ve been on a heart thing lately. They just make me feel good.
All of these were painted with heavy matte acrylic by Golden. Then I used a Faber-Castille pen, and Prisma colored pencils. Then a spray sealer. I get the matte heavy acrylic from www.dickblick.com. I don’t like shiny paint when I working. All I see is glare. Everyone works different. You just keep experimenting until you find what works for you. If it works… it’s not wrong. That’s how to develop a style, a look. Knowing what works for you.
OK, time to scrub this paint off. Can’t wait to start a new painting tomorrow. Oh, I forgot. When I get these finished, ready to hang, they’ll be on my Etsy store. xoxoxo

I love painting these. The bright colors, the simplicity, starkness. They’re very bold, show up across a room. Very different style for me. And that makes it fun. xo PJ Folk art will make you better lookin’…

This is my 1st family portrait folk art painting. It’s the one I’ve been talking about. It was so much fun for me to do. This family always seems to have a smile on their faces, so I had to show some teeth! It’s on stretched canvas, with a deep board frame. The pointy things are for fun, with old buttons. It’s definitely mixed media. I used every kind of paint, pen, pencil, that I have. Just wanted to show it off before I ship it. Over all it’s 24×30. The right size to fit anywhere. Have a great day, and thanks for looking at my art. xxPJ
