A couple of heads out of paper clay drying in front of the fan.  Nope,  I have no idea who they are.  I don’t seem to be able to do that.  I just follow… and they lead.  Whoever appears… I like.  It works that way for me with clay,  carving wood,  painting.   If I want them sweet,  they always look mean.  :)

The one on the left only has a half head.  Going to let it dry to a leather stage,  then add more paper clay.  I kept  moving the nose around accidentally.  Not a good idea.  :)   I love to do these faces.  So fun to see who they are.  I like this size… seems easy to sculpt.

Go shopping on my website.  It doesn’t hurt to look around…  :)   Hope you’re having a really nice weekend…  I’m gonna take a nap… how about you?

a shoe, a witch, a nap….

07/30/2010 · 3 Comments

LaVita is on her way to a Halloween party…. couldn’t find that darn broom… it flys off without telling her.  That’s OK,  she’s got this ol’ shoe that is a much nicer ride.  Her hair won’t get messed up,  and the color is just right.

She’s has lots of black glitter,  silver glitter,  and such nice hair….  She’ll be on  my website very soon… on the Halloween page.   Did I tell you I love Halloween?

Did I mention I also love naps?  I think I feel one coming on….   :)   PJ

Going to be in the studio today.  The first photo is something I’m working on.  I’m hoping to get more done on it today.  Got my fingers crossed,  anyway.   Second photo is just to show how really messy the work table can get.  I neeeeed to scrape paint off the table,  but so far it hasn’t happened.  Then the crow and skelly are a couple of friends that hang out,  and watch me work. Marie Jeff of Birmingham, AL did the crow.  Isn’t he fine?  She does fun folk art.  She use to do chickens out of gourds that were a scream.

It’s cloudy and rainy here…. making me so sleepy.  Lately, everything makes me sleepy. :)   Got to quit that.   Ya’ll have a creative fun day!  Share a smile and encourage someone today.  PJ

Jazell, great legs, real popular

07/29/2010 · 3 Comments

Jazell,  one of the Good Folks of Rabbittrun, Texas

(mental picture: nice lookin’ chicken, great dress,  fur stole, lots of jewelry)

Jazell lives over on Lotus Street.  Gossip is that she’s had plastic surgery,  several times. Nobody knows for sure. But she never seems to age.  Even with all those late nights she keeps.  She does have a busy social life, and so many men friends. Jazell says she just loves them all,  church ladies say she’s a hussy. One thing everybody agrees on, she does have a good time.

Last summer she flew off to one of them places that’s got beaches and those palm trees. Can’t remember the name, but she’s been everywhere, and always with a different man.  She’s real popular.  Why, the mailman delivers at least a dozen letters and cards every day, (he’s one of her greatest admirers).

She usually gets flowers or candy at least once a day.  Before she goes out at night, (she goes out every night), you can  see her through her bedroom window sitting in the middle of her four poster canopy bed, readin’ all the love letters she got that day.

Did I tell you how she decorated her house?  You’re gonna love this. The bed is done in a deep red satin.  Jazell says it’s so inspirational.  When the whole town kept gossipin’ bout her, she redid the windows.  You guessed it!  She had large plate glass windows put in every room.  Now maybe they’ll get the facts straight.  She not only does her own decoratin’, she also designs her own clothes.  Needless to say, she’s a multi  talented girl.

She just couldn’t find clothes to do her justice, or show off her legs.  All the men tell her she has such wonderful legs,  which she does.  She’s not as bad as everybody says.  Jazell can’t help it if every man that lays eyes on her falls instantly in love.  She tries not to encourage them,  but she can’t help bein’ so gorgeous.  And besides, she’s just a naturally friendly person.

Rabbittrun Texas, Imogene, shoplifter

07/28/2010 · 6 Comments

Back in 1986 or so….when I was a mere child… I did these dolls… they all came from this weird little town…. Rabbittrun, Texas.  Each one was a real character.  Since I sometimes used personalities of  people I knew… and didn’t wanna be sued…  The dolls ended up being animal people.  That way,  no one could say… you made that one look just like me… and I’ll see you in court!  Making sense?  Well, it will when you read a few of the stories.

Yesterday,  while spending the day with a friend,  I was telling her about a few of the Good Folks of Rabbittrun, Texas.  She thought it’d be a good idea to put some on my blog.  So if you hate ‘em… let me know…. I’ll send you Patsy’s info and you can complain directly to her.  Second hand is just never as good as when you can speak directly to the person that had this idea…. big smile….

Yes, I did a book kinda thing.  Made it myself.  Published it myself.  That means I took it to quick copy,  brought all those pages home and built the darn thing.  And it’s copyrighted… so don’t be making your Christmas cards out of what I wrote.  Make up your own lies.  You can do it…

Imogene

(get a mental image of a big ol’ giraffe with an ugly dress on)

You see that rather large woman goin’ in the 5 & dime?  No, the one with the large purse.  Yes, that’s the one.  Well,  that’s Imogene,  the town’s one and only shoplifter. Yes,  it is sad. It’s not that she takes that much, or anything worth much.  She just always takes a little somethin’ everywhere she stops. Why, she took the knob right off the Church’s front door.  Everybody was real upset over that one.  You ‘ll notice that her dress has real big pockets.

For awhile there, all the street signs were missin’. They made Imogene give them back.  Didn’t hurt her feelings, she’ll get them back. I know what you’re thinkin’.  Yes we tried to get her help. Even took her to one of those fancy doctors.  I think he was a physcitarist… anyway,  he charged way too much. You can always tell how fancy they are by how much they charge.  Why, the town had a bake sale, car wash, and just out and out begged for the money to pay him.  You should have seen that bill,  it went on forever.  Anyway, we got her there (and all paid up,  I might add.)  He hadn’t seen her three times before he refused to see her anymore.  She bout stole him blind.  Why, she even made off with the potted plant, and the pen set right off his desk.  She was goin’ for the desk  when he said he’d had enough.  Said it was the worst case he’d ever seen. He still doesn’t know she took the light switch, we didn’t have the heart to tell him.

And Imogene kinda liked him.  That’s why she left him his shoes.  That’s always her favorite thing to take.  She likes to think of it as collectin’.  She does have a rather large collection of shoes… takes up one whole room.  She’s not selfish, though, she’ll let you borrow a pair, if you promise to bring them back….

PJ Hornberger did it….

fences, Chihuahua, ghosts

07/26/2010 · 8 Comments

The Hornberger family is in need of a front yard fence.   Herbert,  the big 5lb. Chihuahua,  has stepped up his guard duty.  Not sure why,  maybe cause he’s learned  to hike his leg higher…  had to,  the grass needed to be mowed…. :)

So now he’s decided he can take down that big truck with a  cattle trailer that goes by our house on a regular basis.  Richard almost had a stroke…  Came straight in the house and told on Herbert.  Herbert had his little chest all stuck out.  The little fool.

I was all set to build flower beds… I got dirt.  Really nice loamy dirt.  So excited about my dirt.  I’ve always had flowers, herbs,  etc.  This house was/is  in need of so much love/$    flower beds/dirt   wasn’t on the list.. or not very high on the list.  But if you whine loud, long, and often… things will happen.  I got dirt for my birthday!  Two big piles/14 yds.

Now that super dawg thinks he’s The Mexican Godzilla… I gotta have a fence first.  The little jerk.  And to think I cook for him.  Yes,  I’m a fool.  He’s so skinny,  plays with dry dog food,  so I cook chicken and rice.  He has not gained an ounce.  NaDa…   It’s just not working.

Back to the fence…. guess that’s the next thing on the list.  It’s gotta be cute… the house is so ugly… the fence has to be cute.   OK,  maybe it’s not REAL ugly…. I just love old houses.  Truly love them.  Richard tolerates them.  They have a soul.  They talk to you in the middle of the night.   They move an inch this way or that way.. and give you a  surprise.  Like our bathroom door.  It has shut for 4 years…. it no longer does that.  Surprise!  (snort, giggle)  Who cares….  The house will  shift,  the door will close.  TaDah!

And yes, old houses have ghosts.  Real ones.  No, not really spooky.  Not when you realize they’re not going to hurt you.  Sometimes you see ‘em… sometimes you don’t.  I prefer the ones that I don’t see.  It’s just a preference… :)   Smart dogs or cats can tell you when they’re around.  Herbert does a low growl,  stands real stiff,  doesn’t take his eyes off of the spot.  Shirley gets spooked.  She gets in a crouching position…  then under the nearest furniture.   Nope,  I don’t watch the ghost shows on TV.  In front of a camera, people will do almost anything.  :)

Time for me to get in the studio.  Ya’ll have a great day!  It’s Monday… let’s get this show on the road…

tacos, dogs, Texas laws… giggles

07/25/2010 · 3 Comments

This was a lazy Sunday.  No art,  just played on Facebook…. I did learn some things about a new paint I want to try.  Facebook is so good for that. I try to friend as many artists as possible.  Post a question, and someone will give you what they know about it.  What generous people.

A big fat nap was required today.  Herbert needed it badly… so I had to go along with the idea. That dog works hard harassing Shirley the cat.  He needs his rest.  Now we have a stray kitten.  So far it’s not requiring petting,  but I’m working on him.  At least he’ll eat cat food.

R made crunchy tacos for supper. Oh, soooo gooood!  You know how you get hungry for a certain taste?  I’m fat and happy!  He got the seasoning perfect.  I’m not crazy about Taco seasoning… so we do it from scratch. Taco Snobs! eek!

OK,  I’m done.. roll me over.  Hope you had a positive weekend… everything you wanted it to be.  Now make this week something you’ll be proud of.  Share your good mood.  Share a giggle… they’re contagious.  Decide to be happy.  It’s your choice!

When you’re just so terribly bored….

and thanks for reading my craziness…

It’s required in Texas to put entirely too many words in every sentence… did you know that? Well, it’s the God’s Honest Truth.   And you’re required to tell big fat lies every chance you get.  Yes,  we have weird laws… but we’re happy!

the ear on the right side…

07/22/2010 · Leave a Comment

OK,  I confess…  I haven’t been in the paint in days.  Yes,  it is sad.  If fact,  you might want to read really fast,  cause I think I’m gonna whine.  My whiner is tuned up today.  No, don’t need the violin for a pity party.  You wouldn’t be able to hear it…. I whine really loud.

It’s my ears’ fault…  yep,  it’s not me,  it’s the ear. The right one,  you might know.   It has taken on a life of it’s own.  I on the other hand, have tried and tried to be responsible,   do the right thing.  To no avail…  (that word works there,  doesn’t it?)

Called the Dr.  got meds,  took every last pill.  I did not miss a pill.  See what I’m getting at?  I did my part.  Well, it seems the ear didn’t like that at all.  I’m guessing that’s it,  because the meds didn’t do a thing for the EAR ACHE.  It should have worked.  But no… the ear is not having any of that.

So now that ear,  the one on the right side of my head,  has decided I need just a touch of vertigo.  Oh, yes… that lovely stuff.  Don’t bend over, you’ll do a flip.   Watch that wall, it’ll move on you.  Just a tad sea sick?  Things out of sorts?  Stomach just waiting for that moment  you’ve been dreading?  See what I mean?  It’s the ear!  I would do none of that stuff to myself.  Never!

No,  I can’t.  Cutting it off won’t do a thing for the vertigo.  I don’t care if that crazy artist did it.  I am perfectly sane,  I tell you!  If I did that,  the ear would win.  Never!  Did I mention this stuff makes you sleepy?  Soooo sleepy…  The more you move around,  the worse the ear makes it.

Didn’t I warn you that I was whiney?  But it’s not my fault…. it’s the ear….  the one on the right side…

be creative today….

07/19/2010 · 1 Comment

Not entirely sure what I’ve been doing this past week.  Didn’t accomplish much,  that’s for sure.  Summer colds are the worst.  Seems like they just keep on giving.

So today is a new day.  Got my paint clothes on,  Herbert’s up,  Shirley is feeding her face,  as usual.  I have a painting waiting to be finished.  That’s going to happen today.  Then another one waiting to be started.  It’s going to be a cat & rooster kinda day. :)   Or something like that.

If UPS doesn’t bring my supplies today,  I’m gonna be very disappointed.  I haven’t shipped thru them in awhile.  This time they had several selections… very slow,  kinda slow,  almost fast,  and really fast.  I think I picked almost fast.  Must of underlined the almost.  Oh, their service is fine,  the people that deliver are the nicest around.  I just want my art supplies NOW!  Right now.

Now I’m happy.  The guy just delivered my dirt!  Looks like really good dirt.  I let Ethel out so she can check it for bugs.  Now I can have flower beds,  and some more flower beds.  And level out the front yard.  I’ve only tripped twice stepping in those holes to China.

Ok, now to get in the studio.  Make your day creative,  whatever you have to do.  And smile at somebody… it could make their day.  hugs, PJ
