A couple of heads out of paper clay drying in front of the fan.  Nope,  I have no idea who they are.  I don’t seem to be able to do that.  I just follow… and they lead.  Whoever appears… I like.  It works that way for me with clay,  carving wood,  painting.   If I want them sweet,  they always look mean.  :)

The one on the left only has a half head.  Going to let it dry to a leather stage,  then add more paper clay.  I kept  moving the nose around accidentally.  Not a good idea.  :)   I love to do these faces.  So fun to see who they are.  I like this size… seems easy to sculpt.

Go shopping on my website.  It doesn’t hurt to look around…  :)   Hope you’re having a really nice weekend…  I’m gonna take a nap… how about you?

Jazell, great legs, real popular

07/29/2010 · 3 Comments

Jazell,  one of the Good Folks of Rabbittrun, Texas

(mental picture: nice lookin’ chicken, great dress,  fur stole, lots of jewelry)

Jazell lives over on Lotus Street.  Gossip is that she’s had plastic surgery,  several times. Nobody knows for sure. But she never seems to age.  Even with all those late nights she keeps.  She does have a busy social life, and so many men friends. Jazell says she just loves them all,  church ladies say she’s a hussy. One thing everybody agrees on, she does have a good time.

Last summer she flew off to one of them places that’s got beaches and those palm trees. Can’t remember the name, but she’s been everywhere, and always with a different man.  She’s real popular.  Why, the mailman delivers at least a dozen letters and cards every day, (he’s one of her greatest admirers).

She usually gets flowers or candy at least once a day.  Before she goes out at night, (she goes out every night), you can  see her through her bedroom window sitting in the middle of her four poster canopy bed, readin’ all the love letters she got that day.

Did I tell you how she decorated her house?  You’re gonna love this. The bed is done in a deep red satin.  Jazell says it’s so inspirational.  When the whole town kept gossipin’ bout her, she redid the windows.  You guessed it!  She had large plate glass windows put in every room.  Now maybe they’ll get the facts straight.  She not only does her own decoratin’, she also designs her own clothes.  Needless to say, she’s a multi  talented girl.

She just couldn’t find clothes to do her justice, or show off her legs.  All the men tell her she has such wonderful legs,  which she does.  She’s not as bad as everybody says.  Jazell can’t help it if every man that lays eyes on her falls instantly in love.  She tries not to encourage them,  but she can’t help bein’ so gorgeous.  And besides, she’s just a naturally friendly person.

the ear on the right side…

07/22/2010 · Leave a Comment

OK,  I confess…  I haven’t been in the paint in days.  Yes,  it is sad.  If fact,  you might want to read really fast,  cause I think I’m gonna whine.  My whiner is tuned up today.  No, don’t need the violin for a pity party.  You wouldn’t be able to hear it…. I whine really loud.

It’s my ears’ fault…  yep,  it’s not me,  it’s the ear. The right one,  you might know.   It has taken on a life of it’s own.  I on the other hand, have tried and tried to be responsible,   do the right thing.  To no avail…  (that word works there,  doesn’t it?)

Called the Dr.  got meds,  took every last pill.  I did not miss a pill.  See what I’m getting at?  I did my part.  Well, it seems the ear didn’t like that at all.  I’m guessing that’s it,  because the meds didn’t do a thing for the EAR ACHE.  It should have worked.  But no… the ear is not having any of that.

So now that ear,  the one on the right side of my head,  has decided I need just a touch of vertigo.  Oh, yes… that lovely stuff.  Don’t bend over, you’ll do a flip.   Watch that wall, it’ll move on you.  Just a tad sea sick?  Things out of sorts?  Stomach just waiting for that moment  you’ve been dreading?  See what I mean?  It’s the ear!  I would do none of that stuff to myself.  Never!

No,  I can’t.  Cutting it off won’t do a thing for the vertigo.  I don’t care if that crazy artist did it.  I am perfectly sane,  I tell you!  If I did that,  the ear would win.  Never!  Did I mention this stuff makes you sleepy?  Soooo sleepy…  The more you move around,  the worse the ear makes it.

Didn’t I warn you that I was whiney?  But it’s not my fault…. it’s the ear….  the one on the right side…

wisdom…

Free yourself from the responsibility of making others happy.” ~ S. C. Paul

Excuse me…. I need that tattooed on my forehead.  Every morning I could look up while brushing and try  practicing  THAT  all day.   That would be an accomplishment… a HUGE one.  :)    I stole that on Facebook.  Yes, I’m on FB.  Friend me.  I’ve found some of the coolest artists on there.

OK,  be aware.  I got mohair today.  Gorgeous curly mohair.  Going to be creating figures/creatures/somethin.  Met the coolest woman.  She raises the goats, gives ‘em a haircut, and then fixes the hair so crazy people like me can make something.  She’s my new best friend… and hero.  Once,  just once I bought dirty wool to use for doll hair.  Oh, my…. nasty stuff.  I stunk like an old goat before I was thru.  Worse that washing a kid.  Lisa does all of that… until it shines.  That’s why she’s my hero!

And she solar dyes for weavers.  Amazing.  She’ll be at the Houston Quilt Show in Nov.  I’ll get her info for you if you’re interested.  I bet she’d ship to you if you were nice… :) .

I surely hope someone has snuck in that kitchen and cooked something.  I’m starved.

Have a fun, safe weekend.   Almost forgot… Did you see my auction on eBay?  Click on under Special Places on the right side of this page.  Sister Rev. Mother Lucy looks really good.  xo

Halloween WIP’s

06/06/2010 · Comments Off

OK,  I admit it.  I’m tired of doing fish…  :)   They’re laying everywhere… waiting for me to give them some attention.  They will be there when I’m back in the fish mood.

I’ve been having a fit to work on these.  The small head is a reworked piece.  Love how it looks. Of coarse it really could use some ears.  Some how I forgot that small detail.   That will be fixed tomorrow.  Then the huge head is a reworked piece also.  Several years ago I did several busts. I loved all of them.  The black people are the only ones that sold.  So I’ve been looking at these two pale faces for too long.

Got them ready for clay tomorrow.  I can’t wait!  I’m so excited!  Going to add some things to the small one. More detail on her face…. like ears.  Then the larger one needs lots of work.

I carved by hand for so long today,  that I’ve got a blister.  I had to remove clay to get them the size I wanted.  Especially the larger one.  I love knife carving.  I’m over carving with power tools.  Too much sawdust,  and too hard on my shoulder.  But give me a carving knife, or a really good pocket knife… and I’m happy.

Just thought you might enjoy watching the progress on these two.  I think it’s fun sometimes to see how a piece evolves.  Makes me realize just how much work an artist puts into a piece.

Almost forgot!  I have Halloween ornaments on eBay.  They’re listed under:  Art,  direct from artist,  folk art and primitives.  PJ Hornberger  Halloween Ornaments.  That should help you find them.  hugs, PJ

New ideas…

04/10/2010 · 7 Comments

Okay… I admit it.  I haven’t been painting….  I’ve been thinkin’….  When I do that, something always happens.  Just can’t help myself.  Here we were,  redoing my gallery space,  adding this,  adding that.  Then it hits me… Not again.  Do it different.  Stop talking about it,  do  it.

I’ve been pretty disciplined in my career.  But that’s going out the window.  I want to experiment more.  I want to try things I’ve talked about…   This includes my art in every aspect,  including  how I sell my art.

I’m not going to have a “open gallery”.   By appointment is possible.  Call ahead,  and we’ll work out a date & time, and maybe something to drink. :)

I’ll be having special showings/art parties in my home.  These will be FUN!  Invitations will be by email or in the Newsletter.  Your friends are always invited!  I’m very excited about this.   Got lots of ideas,  can’t wait to show them off.

Also,  for those that don’t live in the area,  or just can’t get here,  I’ve got ideas for online parties.  That could be fun!  With added treats when you make a purchase.

Got any suggestions for a party,  online or at my home?  Let me know.  This is a whole new thing for me.  I know it’s going to be fun,  and allow me to spread my energy/inspiration around.

I’ve also changed my Show & Tell to a Newsletter.  All the details are on that page.

No more commissions.  I am way too slow on commissions.  I need to charge 3 times what I was charging to account for the time.  I don’t want to do that.  So the answer is,  I don’t do commissions.  But I admit,  I did enjoy them.  They were fun,  especially when you know the family.

This turn around/over/new idea/crazy new idea  is going to allow me to try all kinds of new things.  So buckle up!  This ride is going to be exciting!  xoxoxo
