folk art painting…

03/03/2010 · 10 Comments

This isn’t the greatest photo.  I had to take it with my small camera.  The other one decided it’s battery was tired.  I hate when that happens.

This is that cute family that I’ve been doing the  portrait for.  I’ve taken way too long to do it.  Stuff just kept getting in my way.  Right now it has the first coat of varnish waiting to dry.  I’m hoping to have it ready to hang this afternoon.  Keep your fingers crossed….

day 9…

02/19/2010 · 5 Comments

Guess what I did today?  Yes,  I’m still dancing…. but…. I painted,  I sketched,  I got paint on me.  Then I did it some more.  It felt soooo gooood!

I worked on a commission that I shoulda already finished.  But my life got in my way.  Those very nice people have not complained one time.  They are the best.

Today was a really good day.  The sun was shining,  and  I just couldn’t stop grinning.  Shirley snored through my great mood.  Didn’t expect anything else from her.

Back to the commission painting.  It’s a family portrait. It’s gonna be sooo fun.  It’s got everybody in it, then I added some more.  Ha!  It is so busy, can’t wait to slap more paint on it tomorrow.  Here’s a sneak peak….

I’ll show the finished painting after……

Paint everywhere….

10/07/2009 · 1 Comment

Time to hose me down!  I’ve got paint in unmentionable places.  Been slinging paint all day.  Working on folk art sculptors.  A rooster, rabbitt, funny dog,  and an orange cat.  They are too fun!  Can’t wait to show ‘em off as I finish ‘em.   I’ll have at least one finished tomorrow.  See ya then… xo PJ

a day in the city…

sea horse   carousel  ostrich LionTigerbig smile We found this beautiful Italian Carousel at Memorial City Mall in Houston today.  It’s a double decker.  So well done. I couldn’t resist shooting a few photos.  Then around noon the kids and grandparents, or nannies,  some Moms showed up.  They were all so cute.  This little girl and her Grandmother/or Nanny were the cutest.  All I had to do was point the camera at Miss Priss and the biggest smile,  with a little pose,  appeared.  Check out those dimples.  She rode all her favorites on both levels!  And was sweet the whole time.

We had the Mexican food at Berryhill taco/bar in the mall.  Best tamales I’ve ever had.  Great food.  Seems this guy Berryhill sold tamales out of a cart on Westeimer & Montrose.  He sold his recipe and cart. Now there’s 3 locations.  When we go back I’m trying the fish taco.  Strange name for Mexican place,  but very good food. Fun place,  check it out when you’re in Houston.  xoxo PJ

Primitive Paintings…

Zinnias  zinnias  B&W Rabbitt  b&w rabbitt

Brown Rabbitt  brown rabbitt  I’ve been working like crazy to finish these.  The small rabbitt paintings took as much time as the bigger one.  Or it seemed that way.  But they were so fun to do.  I love zinnias.  Next to daisy’s and sunflowers,  they have to be my all time favorite.  The rabbitt (creative spelling)  just kept giving.  I couldn’t get enough detail on them.  Mixed media is fun.  I went from gesso,  3 kinds of acrylic paint, charcoal,  then colored pencil.  Then of coarse a matte varnish.  See what I mean,  it’s fun.  No rules, use whatever I want.  The zinnias have a frame that I put on the canvas.  The rabbitts are on the thick gallery style canvases.  My first with those.  I’ll be buying more I think.  All details are always on the Folk Art Online page. Check it out!

Have  a great Labor Day!  A safe one,  with friends & family. xo PJ
